As the first day of Lent, it comes the day after Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras, the last day of the Carnival season. The word "Carnival" is in fact derived from Latin carne vale: "farewell, meat".

Take that vices. I'll be grumpy 'till Easter.

Take that SEED test! Not only did I get the best score in the class, but I placed an all-time first test record!

Things have been going pretty well, here's a quickie update:
Playing nerd games is tons of fun.
My SEED class is hard and I'm worried about a test tomorrow.
Josh Reed is a live saver.
My driver's side front tire completely came off on the trip back to town.

Update:
09:30 Car arrived at Arkansas Tie and Auto
10:47 Driving my car without a wheel on it has ruined my brake job. Replacement is nearly $200 and that doesn't include replacing the wheel or towing.
12:34 The total is $488. I give them the go ahead.
14:07 Car repair is complete.

I should be in bed right now. You know it. I know it. My body is apparently clueless to the whole ordeal. So, I'm sitting in my room and messing around on the internet until I get sleepy enough to catch some z's.In band news for me, I got fourth chair. And, unlike auditions in the past, I completely deserve my chair. I haven't practiced all summer, including the three weeks I was in Nebraska detasselling corn. I just picked it up recently and certainly didn't work too hard on the music. So I went in there. I was fooing notes, breaking pitches, and basically showing off my complete lack of lip stamina and endurance. The people that beat me played better than I did, simply put. My reason for not working harder? I don't really care about marching season. I know I'm good enough to goof around and still get what I want: a marching horn, since ATU only has five of them for a section pushing ten.

Chelsea is back for one final season. If I play my cards right, we'll be finishing it together. And Brent is back from his mission, which is also terribly exciting. I like marching band just fine. After what I went through during the corn season, this'll be a piece of cake. I'm just getting tired of marching band, I guess. We work so hard out there and I love the seasons, but I'm really starting to grow out of it. Wind ensemble music is where's it at for me. The real music happens there. That's why I'll be busting my ass for that audition, the one that actually matters.

Ugh, my body is pretty good about running on low sleep, and I can always make it up later, so I'm not too teribly worried about being drained tomorrow. There's not a lot of very hard work to be done, most of it just playing my horn and standing around. It's good to see everyone again I've decided, even the people I don't like. This year more than any other makes me realize that I have an entirely different life here and a much different personality. In some regards I'm more free. I'm basically considered free and wild to my friends. If I do something bizarre, it's easy to write it off. I'm a bit more conservative at home. On the other hand, some actions that I do at home would certainly turn a head.. or three here. I can't say that one of them is better than the other one, each one having very obvious advantages and disadvantages. For now, I'm here. And I'm going to make the best of it, which shouldn't be too hard.
